LMBGLOGOI’m super excited to launch my new website www.letmebegreat.com.

I bought the domain letmebegreat.com over two years ago. I knew then I wanted to use it to create a powerful website to help inspire others. But I didn’t know exactly what that would look like. So I let it sit– along with the dozens of other domains I’ve collected over the years.

It wasn’t until this past April that a light bulb went off. I wanted to be a book coach and help other aspiring writers to become published. If I had an accountability partner, I thought, then I would be further ahead in my own writing. Even as a published author, I was still afraid to jump out there and ask people to become a part of my vision. But it was clear that the only thing that would hold me back was me.

I had to give myself permission to be great.

“Let Me Be Great”, I told myself. “Yes, let you.”

It has taken me months to realize that this is exactly what I should be doing. That as long as I stay disciplined and focused everything else will fall into place.

And now there’s no looking back. I’ve invested in my own greatness. Now, let me be great and help you with yours!

On Technology…The Life and Times of Jay-Z on Tumblr

“I don’t surf the net. No, I’ve never been on myspace. Too busy letting my voice vibrate.” Jay-Z Beach Chair

I guess those words no longer ring true for Hov because yesterday he launched lifeandtimes.com in conjunction with tumblr. His new lifestyle site covers music, sports, art and design, and technology. The site is based on Jay-Z’s interests and inspirations. You simply click one of the picture icons and it takes you to the story.

SC’s first post was this photo with the caption “Peace GOD”

On Fashion…Tribal Teyana Taylor for Vibe

I think I’ve mentioned it here before, but Teyana Taylor is one of my favorite style icons. She kills every photo shoot, whether she’s rocking J’s or a white tee. This time she is modeling various ethnic and tribal prints for a spread in Vibe Magazine. The pieces are African, Indian, and Lebanese inspired.

Even before I lived in South Africa, I loved tribal prints. I have several signature pieces in my closet that I wear every now and then. It’s funny because most of the people in SA –at least where I lived–rarely wore African print. The average person wore European and American style clothes (i.e. jeans and t-shirts).

Nevertheless, TT looks amazing in this shoot. ♥

On Writing…

The writer has to take the most used, most familiar objects — nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs — ball them together and make them bounce, turn them a certain way and make people get into a romantic mood; and another way, into a bellicose mood. I’m most happy to be a writer.

On Comedy…The Real Housewives of Civil Rights

I stumbled across this video the other day. The ladies of Elite Delta Force 3 comedy troop, along with Wayne Brady, made a short spoof of The Real Housewives. The skit featured none other than Coretta Scott-King, Betty Shabazz, and Rosa Parks as the main characters. While I’m sure there are people who will not find this funny, I thought it was cute for the sake of comedy.
